From first interest to journeyman.

Journeyman helps people find the trade that fits them, connects them with local training programs, and coaches them through the skills that stand between day one and the licensing exam. Intelligence that builds tradespeople, not answer keys.

Free for learners. Built with trade schools, colleges and apprenticeship programs. Works on any phone or laptop.

More people are starting apprenticeships. Most still don't finish.

The pipeline into the trades is growing. The leak is between the first day and the certification exam.

DEWALT, AI in the Trades study

A wrong answer shows what was missed. Journeyman finds why.

Every question maps to a skill in your trade's standards, and every skill to the ones it depends on. When an apprentice misses, Journeyman walks down that chain until it finds the real gap.

1. Diagnose

A short placement check starts at the skills on the block exam and probes downward only where an apprentice struggles. Field hours count: skills they use daily are confirmed, not retaught.

2. Remediate

Practice targets the root cause with calculations, code lookups, diagram reading and troubleshooting sequences. A miss brings a different technique, not the same explanation again.

3. Retest

A fresh problem checks the original skill. Instructors see one clear line per apprentice and suggested small groups before the next block begins.

Your curriculum. Our engine.

Journeyman doesn't replace your instructors or rewrite your trade. It runs on the standards you already teach to, with content your people approve.

  • Mapped to national standards

Skills follow Red Seal occupational analyses and U.S. apprenticeship work processes, so progress speaks your program's language.

  • Instructors approve every question

AI drafts practice problems. A journeyman instructor reviews them before any apprentice sees one.

  • Coaching, not answer keys

Hints point to the right step in the calculation or the right section of code. Apprentices still do the work, because the exam won't do it for them.

A day's work, done right.

A journeyman was once a tradesperson who had finished their apprenticeship and could be paid for a day's work by any master. The name comes from the French journée, a day. It meant competence, and the freedom to practice a craft anywhere.

Journeyman exists to get more trade school students and apprentices to that day. The trades are where housing, infrastructure and energy get built, and there aren't enough certified people to build them.

We believe AI belongs in trades training only if it makes apprentices more capable on their own. So Journeyman diagnoses and coaches, instructors stay in charge of content, and apprentices do the thinking.

See Journeyman with your apprentices in mind.

We're partnering with a small number of apprenticeship programs and colleges for our first pilot. Tell us about yours, and bring the topic your students fail most often. We'll show you how Journeyman would diagnose it.
